Just a quick update to let you know where we're staying while in Madrid from July 2nd to 5th.
We're staying at the Urban Santa Ana Apartments, Echegaray, 13 2ºA, Madrid - a nicely located apartment with it's own kitchen and washing machine which should serve as our own little oasis to both enjoy the wonderful city atmosphere and sites, and to catch up on underwear washing after 4 days on the road. I've also been in touch with Sol, the apartment manager, via email and he's agreed to let us in first thing when we arrive on the Elipsos train from Paris so we can drop off our stuff and get cleaned up before heading out to enjoy the wonders of Madrid. It doesn't get much better than that.
One of my team members was in Madrid recently and went and checked it out for us and confirmed that it's in a nice, relatively quiet area, that is close to all the major sites we will be visiting on our stay. There is also a nice bar in the same building should M and I feel the need to escape from teenager-dom for a few minutes. :)

Now, the last step is to take care of a rental car and one more night's accomodation somewhere between Madrid and Barcelona. Did I hear someone say Valencia, home of Paella? Oh, ok then... ;)
